Oral and Maxillofacial surgery focuses on the identification, surgical intervention, and additional treatments for diseases, injuries, and abnormalities affecting the human jaws, as well as the associated structures of the mouth and face. The course provides comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in surgical techniques, patient management, and post-operative care. Students are trained to manage a variety of conditions, including facial trauma, temporomandibular joint disorders, cleft lip and palate, oral cancers, and benign oral tumors.
Additionally, the program emphasizes cosmetic procedures such as corrective jaw surgery and dental implantology.
Through a combination of theoretical education, hands-on practice, and clinical exposure, the course prepares students to handle complex surgical cases with confidence and precision, ensuring that they are equipped to improve the functional and aesthetic outcomes for their patients.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for admission to the MDS Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery program are as follows:
Educational Qualification: The candidate should have a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognized university. The candidate should also have completed a one-year rotating internship program in a recognized dental college.
Minimum Marks: The candidate should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in their BDS degree. However, for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, the minimum percentage is 40%.
