The “Voluntary Blood Donation Week” was held from 13th to 17th August 2024 at the Blood Centre of the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion, Santosh Medical College Hospital, to commemorate Independence Day. This noble initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation within the community. The primary objectives of the blood donation camp included raising awareness about the significance of voluntary blood donation and its life-saving impact, as well as encouraging community participation in altruistic activities and fostering a sense of social responsibility.
The camp featured several engaging activities, starting with the registration process, where donors provided essential details such as name, age, contact information, and medical history. A team of qualified medical professionals, including Dr. Anshul Chaturvedi, Dr. Arun Tintoo, and Dr. Sehrish Chaudhary, conducted thorough medical screenings to assess donor eligibility, checking vital signs, hemoglobin levels, and medical history to ensure safety for both donors and recipients. Eligible donors then proceeded to the blood donation area, where trained phlebotomists collected blood using sterile techniques and disposable equipment. After donation, refreshments and snacks were provided to help replenish energy and prevent any discomfort.
Overall, the blood donation camp was a resounding success, thanks to the collective efforts of volunteers, healthcare professionals, and donors.
